How New Units Usually Leave

  • On a standard order, Ford's own transportation network delivers the finished vehicle to the dealer or customer. Baier is not part of that network.
  • Ford Pro Ship Through sends the built vehicle to an upfitter near the factory, then back to the producing plant to rejoin Ford's transportation network for delivery. Ford notes extra freight fees may apply and that carrier height and weight limits can restrict it.
  • With Ford Pro Drop Ship, the vehicle goes to the upfitter named by its drop-ship code, and Ford tells the customer to work with the upfitter to arrange delivery. That final move, from the upfitter or the delivering dealer to you, is where Baier comes in.
  • In 2014 Ford said high-roof Transits headed to dealers within about 500 miles of Claycomo would move by truck and longer trips by rail. Ford has not published a newer statement for this plant.

Pickup Notes

  • Hours, gate rules and release paperwork depend on the dealer or upfitter that hands over the vehicle, and the manufacturer does not publish them for this plant. Confirm them with the releasing site and pass them to dispatch when you book.
  • Get a written release from the dealer or upfitter: the contact who will hand over the unit, the VIN or stock number, and the hours their lot is open.
  • Ask whether the title document for a new vehicle (the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin) travels with the vehicle or separately, and tell dispatch which.
  • At pickup the driver and the releasing party inspect the vehicle and sign the bill of lading; keep your copy. Someone 18 or older signs again at delivery.
  • Racks, bins, ladder racks and high roofs change a van's height. Give dispatch the final height and length; a unit that no longer fits a standard open carrier position moves to a commercial quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Baier pick up a new Transit or F-150 at the Claycomo plant gate?
Ford does not publish a customer pickup process for Kansas City Assembly, so plan the pickup at the dealer or upfitter that releases the vehicle and confirm the address when you book. Baier then books a vetted partner carrier with active FMCSA authority for the pickup in the Kansas City area.
Does a high-roof Transit cost more to ship?
Baier's rate card prices a stock van in the van class. High-roof, extended-length or upfitted Transits can need a specific position on the carrier, so a rep confirms the price once you share the roof height, length and any equipment.
Can I ship several new Transits from Kansas City at once?
Yes. Two or more units on one order go to a rep for pricing. Use the quote form or call with the count, the VINs if you have them and the release location.
How long does Kansas City to New England take?
At 1,330 to 1,460 road miles, plan on 4 to 5 days once the vehicle is loaded. Baier calculates transit from distance; when pickup happens depends on matching your unit with a carrier heading east, and flexible dates help.
